They would give you the orthotics and will replace them until he's 18. My son recently had to have his entire foot reconstructed. They had to remove bone, graft bone, and lengthen his heel chord, and prior to that had wanted him to have orthotics. Our insurance denied it too and the same reason, he isn't a diabetic. I was sooooooo mad. We were going to go to Shriner's but then they found all of the other issues with his foot and because he is in his major growth spurt (he's 15) they decided to do the reconstruction surgery instead. Get this, the surgery was $14,000. Insurance paid all but $865. The orthotics would have cost them significantly less.
